FOP Meetup

The Fraternal Order of Police Greenville Lodge 17 recently gathered for a productive meeting that brought together members old and new to discuss current needs and opportunities facing our lodge and the law enforcement community.

Highlights from the meeting:

  • Membership engagement: Longtime members shared their experiences and welcomed newer officers, emphasizing mentorship and peer support as priorities. We discussed ways to strengthen connections across shifts and precincts, including regular meet-ups and a mentorship program pairing veteran officers with newer members.

  • Advocacy and public safety priorities: Members reviewed ongoing legislative and community advocacy efforts affecting officer safety, mental health resources, and funding for necessary equipment. We identified key areas where Lodge 17 can amplify our voice and coordinate with allied organizations.

  • Training and professional development: Attendees evaluated current training gaps and expressed strong interest in expanded opportunities for de-escalation training, tactical medical support, mental wellness workshops, and leadership development. Plans were made to solicit input for a training calendar tailored to member needs.

  • Member services and support: The group discussed enhancements to member benefits, including legal assistance, peer counseling access, and support for families affected by line-of-duty incidents. We reaffirmed commitment to ensuring every member knows how to access these services.

  • Community outreach and partnerships: Ideas were shared for community engagement initiatives to build trust and improve public safety outcomes, such as youth mentorship programs, safety forums, and joint events with local organizations.

  • Fundraising and resources: We reviewed current financial needs for programs and charity work and outlined fundraising strategies to support training, member services, and community projects.

Next steps:

  • Establish a mentorship pilot program and recruit volunteers.

  • Survey members to prioritize training topics and preferred scheduling.

  • Form a small advocacy working group to coordinate legislative outreach.

  • Develop a community outreach plan and identify partner organizations.

  • Schedule the next membership meeting and publish minutes and action items.

We thank every member who attended for their input and commitment. If you are a current or prospective member interested in getting involved, please contact Lodge 17 to learn how you can support these initiatives and help strengthen our lodge and the community we serve.
